Hiking the Ndorobos Trail

A mind-blowing experience in Kween district

Are you ready to disconnect from your usual workdays, to allow the continuous walking to take over your thoughts, to be physically exhausted but rewarded with stunning views? We welcome you to join us for this outstanding adventure here at the Ndorobos trailhead.

The impression of the area and the people, you will be surprised the farming lands so well organized. From up there in the mountains, you can see the clear boundaries of the lands, large rectangular squares each dedicated to specific agriculture (in fact, a bit like Europe).

The tones and the colors are also different from that of western Uganda (Fort Portal). The lighter colors are probably due to the predominant cultures in this area, the maize, millet, and potatoes. The mountain is also different from the Rwenzori mountain plateau, yet hilly but offering flatter lands and thus more cultivatable areas.

Most surprisingly, at the tip of this plateau”, the mountains suddenly dip downwards to the lowlands.

The communities are extremely welcoming, and you will feel a lot of curiosity and calm. People are open and warm. And they are much willing to share with you the history of this area,  their communities, traditions, the plants, name practicing and so much more.

Why is this area so unique and the reason you should visit?

First of all this region has something special in the air, probably linked with the altitude and the freshness that accompanies it, but also the tranquility of the place. The breathtaking views of mount Elgon, Mt Kadam, the valley between Mt Elgon and Mt Kadam, which is part of the Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve, Caves, Waterfalls, and very different landscapes standing in front of you. Not forgetting the tribes and the stories that inhabit it.

It has a rich, understated history compared to other parts of Uganda. You will also notice that in terms of nature, this area is much more than the proximity to mount Elgon national park. You will get this feeling of entering a timeless world, almost untouched by the political and economic restlessness of the country and the world.
